Why not just install the desktop edition of Ubuntu and install the LAMP (or any server-related application) server afterwards?

HTH.

Was thinking the exact same thing. WHY do people do this. Its nonesense. If oyou want a desktop system then install the desktop system. It makes no sense at all. The server is a server because it doesn't have a big bulky x server taking up ram as well as the desktop apps taking up drive space. Installing the ubuntu-desktop package will give you the exact same system if you'd installed the desktop system so why add the extra complication? You will not gain anything installing the ubuntu-desktop on a server system at all except you will have to upgrade the generic kernel as well as the server kernel.
If you need pae then install the generic-pae kernel and you will have a decent kernel. The desktop system can do everything the server can do, the server just doesn't have an x session occupying the ram.

Can you help with this problem?
