use pidgin its much better than the others, it supports gtalk,yahoo,msn,icq,irc,facebook etc. you can install it from the Ubuntu software center

I would recommend trying Empathy first as it's included with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. It supports Google Talk, MSN, Facebook etc and is also nicely integrated with the Indicator Applet in the top right of your display.

Empathy can be found in:
    Applications -> Internet -> Empathy.

If that doesn't feel good, try the many alternatives as arjun and nafterburner suggested.

Empathy is already installed. It can be used as Google Talk client.

Can you help with this problem?
