nVidia driver should I?

Asked by Drake1234

Hello.
I am running an old nVidia card which is an nVidia GeForce 2 series and I've been hearing some stuff about nVidia drivers making the whole screen go blank and stuff. I don't have internet access on that computer that has Ubuntu installed right now so i was wondering if i should download the driver from www.nvidia.com then put it on a flash drive the install it so i could get those neat desktop effects enabled. Should i do that or should i just get it from the system tools thing when i get internet access cause i really don't want anything to happen to my computer cause i have only have had Ubuntu installed for 2 days.

Hello,

I believe that it is better to install the driver after you get access to the Internet, because (a) you will get a driver that is for sure compatible with the Linux kernel you have on this machine, and (b) you will get updates for this driver automatically, together with updated kernels
