Partition question (Toshiba issues)

Asked by Eric Smith

I have three partitions on my computer (without messing with anything).
The computer is TOSHIBA Satellite A505-S6025. Windows came pre-installed.

Here is a picture from Windows: http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/487/partitionsu.png
The live CD runs just fine.

However, in Ubuntu the first partition is labeled 'boot' and the last one
recovery'. Does this change anything with the partition step?

I have never used Ubuntu or Linux before. Thanks in advance for the help.

(btw, when shutting down the live CD, it quits from Ubuntu but hangs in the boot menu with a bunch of text but does nothing.
Is that normal?)

You'll find the last partition is a recovery partition added by toshiba to make reinstalls easier. The labels are only for humans arn mean nothing to the OS.

You can label partitions as you wish. They are not used by the OS in any way.

When the liveCD stops it should pop out the cd and yu then press enter to continue the shutdown.
