How can I request a free Ubuntu CD after "becoming an Ubuntu Member" by completing a PayPal donation to Ubuntu?

Asked by bob44

On May 9, 2010, I attempted to request a free Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop Edition 32-bit CD. The below screen was displayed:
-------------------------
Demand for Ubuntu CDs is very high, and we're trying to ensure that we have enough CDs for those who really need one. We've noticed that you've already received CDs of several previous Ubuntu releases. You can help us ensure the continued availability of Ubuntu CDs by

 - upgrading to the new release without a CD
 - downloading your own CD for free
 - becoming an Ubuntu member by contributing to Ubuntu, and thereby becoming eligible for more CDs
Thanks for your support of Ubuntu!
--------------------------

So, I decided to become an "Ubuntu Member" by contributing to Ubuntu and "thereby becoming eligible for more CDs"!

I clicked on the web page "donation link" and made a $10 donation to Ubuntu through my PayPal account. My PayPal account history verifies that my $10 donation was successfully made to: "Canonical Limited" on May 9, 2010.

However, seven weeks after making the requested donation to Ubuntu, and hopefully becoming an "Ubuntu Member", I am still not able to request the Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop Edition 32-bit CD because I continue to get re-prompted to donate to Ubuntu by the recurring Ubuntu donation screen shown above.

FYI - I have previously sent three emails requesting assistance regarding this issue to Ubuntu, Canonical, and Shippit email addresses over the past five weeks but no email responses have been received from any of the above possible support contacts.

If possible, please advise how I can "become an Ubuntu Member" by receiving credit for the PayPal donation that I made to Canonical Limited on May 9, 2010, and then how I might submit a request for the current Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop Edition 32-bit CD.

Thanks very much for any possible assistance ...

bob44,

Your question is "non-technical" in nature, and thus not perfectly suited to this particular support area.

Ubuntu Membership is separate from the donate button.

See the section "Procedure for Obtaining Membership" at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Membership

Good luck,
George

The Ubuntu "request a CD" web page stated:
"You can help us ensure the continued availability of Ubuntu CDs by ... - becoming an Ubuntu member by contributing to Ubuntu, and thereby becoming eligible for more CDs".

So, I followed those Ubuntu shippit web page directions for "becoming eligible for more CDs" by donating to Ubuntu ... and I made the requested donation using the PayPal donation link that was on the shippit web page.

I really do not need to become an "Ubuntu Member" ... I was only following the directions posted on the Ubuntu shippit web page to support Ubuntu with a donation and become eligible for more CDs.

Unfortunately, my PayPal donation to "Canonical Limited" has not made me eligible for any more CDs as was posted on the Ubuntu shippit web page. That same message, with the same "support Ubuntu with a donation to become eligible for more CDs" is still being displayed today, seven weeks later ... whenever I try to request an Ubuntu Desktop Edition CD.

This is my fourth attempt to get Ubuntu help after making my $10 donation to Ubuntu on the "request a CD" web page. My three previous email messages have all gone unanswered. I have searched for "Contact email addresses" to report this problem, but I have not found any email addresses that will respond, or where I could have my May 9, 2010 PayPal donation to Canonical Limited verified.

In my last email request for support, sent to <email address hidden>, I even copied the person at Canonical Limited who was listed on my PayPal account donation receipt, <email address hidden>, but I again got no email reply at all, and the "Copy To" address for <email address hidden> came back as "undeliverable"?

Who can I contact at Ubuntu, Canonical Limited, or shippit? What group posted the shippit web page message saying that if I would donate to Ubuntu ... I would become eligible for more Ubuntu CDs? I have searched the various Ubuntu web sites and I have not been able to find any Contact email addresses that will respond to my email messages.

I like Ubuntu, and I want to support Ubuntu ... now, and in the future, but so far I have found it to be impossible ... "to support Ubuntu and become eligible for more CDs". My PayPal donation to Canonical Limited seems to have "blue screened" ... just like windows ... :-)

I did try contacting Ubuntu, Canonical Limited, and shippit first, but when I was not able to get any email response at all from any of those groups ... I tried this "Ubuntu Member" message board in hopes that someone here might be able to point me in the right direction. This message board is the only Ubuntu related resource that has responded to any of my requests for support. If you cannot help me, or even just point me in the right support direction ... I really have no idea on who else to try to contact?

Any suggestions at all?

You have made an error. Donating does not means that you will become an Ubuntu Member. To become an Ubuntu Member, you have to contribute with the Ubuntu Community for at least six months, and then make a request. Donating is not related to becoming an Ubuntu Member.

Can you help with this problem?
