No Internet Connection

Asked by fatsheep

I connect fine to the internet on Windows but on Ubuntu the machine in question doesn't connect and not only that, the LED for my NIC does not turn on. Other machines on the network (including the one I am typing from) get internet fine as well. I have tried another network cable but it didn't make a difference, Windows still connects fine and Ubuntu doesn't even turn the LED on. What gives?

Thanks in advance,

- fatsheep

Jacob i think Fatsheep ask you what are the hardware (modem, usb-modem, router, ethernet-router) that you are using to connect...!

Please tell us... to get help.

Thanks.

Well, It's an onboard NIC (Gigabyte PA-P35-DSR3 motherboard if I remember the model name correctly, I'll double check when I get home) and I use a Netgear router to connect to the internet. I can't remember what modem it is but I can check that as well. However, as I have stated, Windows connects perfectly fine so I don't think it's an issue with the router or cables. All other computers on the network work fine, including mine which Ubuntu connects to the internet on perfectly.

I had to enable wake-on-lan in windows device manager to get this to work. Solution was provided on www.ubuntuforums.org.
