freezes on boot graphic

Asked by David Morris

I came across this post from 4hours ago on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=2204705275&topic=3437 you need to be logged in) where someone is looking for help, I'll send them the link to this question but I'll start the ball rolling for them

Hi all,

I was using Ubuntu Breezy Badger for over a year as my apache web server, then doing some research on how to make pages load faster I came across some updates I needed, I got 404 errors looked at the sites and saw no folders for breezy badger. doh. Ok, so I downloaded feisty fawn from http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.04/

The desktop x32bit version. I downloaded from another site too first recorded it on a CD RW and it would freeze after choosing "start or install ubunut". I wiped the old hard drive its all at 0s - as with breezy it was reporting the hdd was bad - I did the maxtor test and the hdd passed both quick and advanced, so I zeroed it out to start fresh.

I then redownloaded feisty fawn, this time I checked the md5sum - on both downloads both show to be correct. I burned this iso onto a CD-R and it is also freezing at "start or install UBUNTU".

Am I doing something wrong? My computer is a
dell Optiplex P3
600 MHz processor
256 RAM
onboard video

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the alternate iso? http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.04/ubuntu-7.04-alternate-i386.iso

this is not a live cd, but a text based installation method. So if you don't have a high enough specification for installing from live-cd you can try to use this one Hope it will be helpfull.
