Usb printer not found

I have resently instaled Ubuntu and have a HP deskjet 841 c conected with a USB plug. When i try to print I am told I have no printer. I can find it by looking on my network for my own system. however I can not get any files to print. I am also having problems with other USB divices, such as a web cam, however that is a nonisue compared to not being able to print.
