my tochpad is not working i have installed ubuntu 10.4 along with windows its working on windows vista but not on ubuntu 10.4 my laptop model is lenevo 3000 y 500 please help me

Try using the bootoption:

i8024 reset

Usually fixes these things. Run:

gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub

find this line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

and change it to

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8024 reset"

Save the new file, close gedit then run:

sudo update-grub

Then reboot.

no bro my touch pad is still not working bro when i open the touchpad option in system then preference then i click on touch pad there is an error displayed it says

 GSynaptics couldn't initialize.
You have to set 'SHMConfig' 'true' in xorg.conf or XF86Config to use GSynaptics

i also tried what is given in the earlier answer but no results what should i do now

i8024.nomux

and maybe even

i8024.nomux=1

or various combinations of all.
