Remove Windows XP from duel booting make Ubuntu only operating system.

i am currently duel booting of windows XP and Ubuntu. I want to complete remove windows XP and make Ubuntu the only operating system.
i know i can just reinstall ubuntu, but i do not want to lose the files i've saved while using ubuntu these past few month.
is there any way to do this and if so how?

I'm running off a Dell Dimension E520 if that helps any..

Just format the partition on which Windows is installed, and update grub:

sudo update-grub

Open the Computer, and select the disk partition where Windows is installed. Right click on it, and select format. Choose Filesystem you want (i recommend ext 4 filesystem, because it is the newest and most stable), and name of your new disk partition. Then Click on "Format" button. After the formatting has finished, open the Terminal from the Applications=>Accessories, and type in it:

sudo update-grub

i do not have ext4 filesystem. only compatible with all systems (FAT), compatible with linux (ext2) & (ext3), and Encrypted, compatible with linux (FAT).
out of the ones i just named which do you recommend?

i just chose ext 3.

but i don't understand "open terminal from applications=>accessories"..
bare with me on being computer stupid.
