avast! will not run after attempted update

Avast! will not run after attempted update and reinstall...I do not know how to remove the original

sudo atp-get remove avast avastgui

Thank you, I do not know why avast! worked fine up to the point that I tried to update the software. After trying to remove and reinstall the package I still get an error code...I am still too new to ubuntu I suppose...

I give up...looking for something different than Win.. but nothing is even close to what I know
