Ubuntu server

I'm new to using ubuntu server. I really have no idea what I'm doing but my boss wants me to research it. I'm having a hard time installing yafc because I don't know how to install anything through cli for linux. I need massive help please.

Yes. He wants it so that a server here can downloand and I assume upload to and from a ftp client on a schedule. So I was going to use yafc and crono to see if I can accomplish this but I don't know where to start. I'm not used to the command line for Ubuntu. I don't even know how to install programs.

Ubuntu ships with an ftp client already, the command is:

ftp

and is installed by default. I am not familiar with crono. You can script ftp very nicely as it is a command line app.

I honestly do not know how to script. I'm an intern so he has me doing this kinda stuff. I'm a network side admin but he has me doing server side.
