which version do i need

let me explain what im trying to do. im trying to run ubuntu 10.4 from an external hardrive. my goal is to be able to boot from this external hardrive to any computer i hook it up too and be able to run like a regular operating system, changing background and saving it, photos and music still there everytime i boot to it, etc. please walk me through it

Use the 10.04 ISO and MD5 check it, once verified as OK. Use the above guide.

ive done that before but ill try it again. ubuntu wont recongnize my harddrive to fully install it
