I wrote in the terminal command sudo apt-get install gfortran, but I get the error "E: Couldn't find package gfortran" Can anyone help?

I wrote in the terminal command sudo apt-get install gfortran, but I get the error "E: Couldn't find package gfortran" Can anyone help? (I am connected to the internet when I write this) Download Ubuntu to my external hard drive, would that affect anything?

Its in the repo, make sure you have al the repos enabled in software centre
