trying to install ubuntu

Hi, I am trying to install ubuntu, I downloaded the program onto a DVD disc and when I try to open it, it says that it does not recognise the program (iso). The laptop is an acer (4yrs old) and running XP. I wanted to wipe the XP and just have ubuntu and the boot sequence is set to disc (as it does not recognise it just keeps going over to hard drive and booting XP. pls help?????

Hello,

You need to burn the ISO image not just copy it to a CD.

If you do this and set the boot sequence to the CD/DVD drive in the BIOS all should be OK.

Then when it gets to the part to set up Partition, use erase and use all of disk.

If you have files you want , you should save them cause they will be lost.
