i am having trouble downloading everything

I tried to download my antivirus and limewire there was an error that come up and it said that i need to go into preferences and change my settings. I dont know what to change or how to get into to where i need to be to change it?

I dont know what software dowmload client is can you tell me how to find out.

I have not really done much with computers but im trying to learn. So i dont know what software download client is or how to figure out which one im using

Why do you download antivirus? are you running a server for windows clients? Linux/Ubuntu is almost virus free so there isn't much need for an antivirus program. You may wish to look at this link for some insight.

So does that mean i cant download limewire because it does the sane thing. i cant download nothing.

     I would guess that if you don't know what 'download client' you are using, you are downloading with Mozilla Firefox. It has a built-in download facility, accessed under "Tools", "Preferences" on mine are under "Download Helper", but can't tell you what preferences you would need to change without more specific information about the message it is giving you.
     Incidentally, I use F-prot for antivirus and it updates its own definitions automatically - are you sure your's doesn't? I'm not sure about limewire. Most people use the "Synaptic Package Manager" Under "System" menu then "Administrative" to get new stuff. Limewire itself isn't listed, but there is a package called "frostwire" that says it is based on limewire. Might be better to try that first, because downloads from that area might be faster anyway (from my experience). Plus new software installs better.
