which modem?

Asked by heaths

I have a speedtouch 330 usb modem, and i spent 4 hours trying to install the thing, with no results. the ubuntu site said something about usb being terrible, does anyone know of any modems (preferably broadband) or one of those ethernet thingys that work out of the box with ubuntu?

OR.....

<<<<<MAYBE THERE SHOULD BE SOME OUT OF THE BOX UBUNTU USB SUPPORT, OR MAYBE THOSE MANUFACTURERS SHOULD THINK OF THE <<CLEVER>> PEOPLE WHO CHOSE UBUNTU, A LINUX CD WITH A <WINDOWS> STYLE INSTALLATION WIZARD WOULD BE NICE!>>>>>>>
