Desktop Effects disabled Beryl

Asked by Forgotten

I'm new to linux/ubuntu so forgive me if I sound foolish. I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 7.04 everything updated, I installed beryl aswell as updated my nvidia drivers for it. Beryl worked great up until I went to System>Preferences>Desktop Effects, now it has no effect on the system whatsoever. I could careless if the Desktop Effects work I would just like to get Beryl working again.

The Following should hold little relevance as everything was working perfectly before I attempted to activate the Desktop Effects.
Geforce 6600
1 Gig Ram
Intel Celeron D 2.66gz

Thanks for the help.

Hi there,

the desktop effects button refers to compiz which beryl is a fork of, so mainly you tried to activate a different desktop effects program. Disable the effects in the settings dialog and try to start beryl from command line via

nohup beryl --replace &

if that works everything is fine and you may start beryl the way you used to from now on.

Bye
Lars
