can't get dvd to play

Asked by poppy812

Was running 9.1 with xfce and try to play dvd. Would maybe show a short shot then nothing. Checked the forum and tried stuff, load libdvd stuff but still nothing. Then saw the sudo apt-get libdvdread4 sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh and it worked could watch dvd and think Youtube worked. Now have gone to 10.4 with gnome and back to square one. Youtube will have everything but the video,a black box. When do a video from a email it won't do anything, time will go but nothing but if I click on help, will come down with menu and the video plays in background??? Still no dvd, think did do the sudo get libdvdread4 thing but still not play dvds. I have movie player,M player but don't have vlc,saw on forum,it did work with movie player. I have 8 libdvdread4's in file system. What else do I need to look for or install. Thanks for your help, you guys are awesome for helping us new guys,Thanks.

ok try:

sudo apt-get --purge remove swfdec-mozilla libswfdec-0.8-0 libdvdread*; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove; sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

You can then reinstate the DVD playback plugins and you should be ok. The command installs the Adobe plugin for flash and removes the swfdec.

Should be ok.
