External Monitor Shuts off after boot screen

I'm Brand new to Ubuntu And i have an Alienware with a bad LCD so i cant see anything except very light outlines. I have an External Monitor but it shuts off after the boot screen goes to Ubuntu. I've Tryed FN +F4 but it only puts the Alienware to Sleep i had a flash of the Login Screen once but it was very short lived. I'm not good with script. Anyone Help PLEASE!!!?

If you can log in, and get as far as your desktop (even if it's very hard to see what's going on). Then you can do this (and it should do the trick):

1. Press Alt+F2, this should bring up the run programme dialogue box
2. Type: gnome-display-properties
3. Press Enter
4. Configure your screens as you wish.
