Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you run the CD checker (press space when the stick man shows and you can chose it there)?

ok thats good. remember to check the ISO *BEFORE* burning in futue. Please tell 2 people about MD5 testing and tell them to tell 2 people.

If you boot to root recovery mode (hold shift at boot, select recovery mode then select root (scroll down hard with cursor)

You can then run this:

cd /home/foo; rm -r ./.*

Then reboot. replace foo with your username. E.g:

cd /home/andy; rm -r ./.*

This will remove all the gnome config folders (which you havent touched anyway). Next time you log in the system will be forced to regenerate the folders and you SHOULD get a vanilla desktop.
