Internet Access problems

Asked by mshell@alum.mit.edu

I've installed 10.04 on a PC dual boot with Windows. The Windows side works fine on all internet services. On Ubuntu, could not connect to anything (email, web, etc.). I disabled ipv6 in Firefox and now that works fine. email and ping do not. I've tried several approaches to disabling ipv6 in general, but none work.

One clue is that the only address I can ping successfully is my ISP (midcoast.com)

thanks

Not all servers in the world answer ping requests. That is normal. If you can browse the web then you don't have a network problem, but maybe just a misconfigured mail client.

I don't think this is right. The settings I use in Thunderbird on the WIndows side work fine, but not here.

Yes. this is actually correct. I now have Thunderbird working fine. Evolution does not work, but that is not important.
