Hey dannymichel,

Try going into the Keyboard Preferences

I would suggest you to go in : System -> Preferences -> Mouse. From there you should be able to adjust the speed of your pointer.

Have you tried to make the desired changes and logoff and login ? For me these settings apply instantly but it maybe not the case for you. Are you able to reproduce this with a recent Ubuntu LiveCD ? with an other mouse ? If yes, you should maybe fill a bug.

Other than that I have no other clue.

ok, From a Terminal, open up gconf-editor

then go to Desktop>Gnome>Peripherals>Mouse

Motion-Acceleration should be set to -1 by default, the higher the number, the faster, go more into the negatives for slower.Hope this helps!

I had the same or a very similar problem, mouse pointer speed was way to high at mouse preference menu slider minimum. Followed Allen's advice and adjusted Motion-Acceleration in gconf-editor. However, going into the negatives doesn't solve it (even though -1 is indeed the default), but approaching zero does for me. Menu slider minimum resulted in a value around 0.2 here, 0.001 gave me the speed I wanted.

Thank you Allen for the tip, and hopefully this helps you further dannymichael if Allen's comment did not solve it for you.

Maybe a bug report would be useful for getting the slider minimum adjusted to a lower level? I googled around before finding this thread, and think there are many people who complain (I must add that my mouse was not unusable but just that bit too fast for me).

Can you help with this problem?
