How do I use the remote desktop feature?

I want to set-up my friends Ubuntu Box using the remote desktop feature.
He ticked all the check boxes on the Remote Desktop window and I know the his remote desktop passowrd and the code of his vncviewer.
After that, we do not know what to do.
What else do we do for me to control his Ubuntu box?
