from ubuntu do:

go to the applications->accesories->terminal

type:
sudo cp /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.lst_backup

then type:
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

and then you should be able to change the list, concentrate on the end of
the file.

if you run in any trouble use the rescue cd (the live CD) and use the backup
file to replace the new file you made.

type this command to copy it back:
sudo cp /boot/grub/menu.lst_backup /boot/grub/menu.lst

Good luck!

it is simple:
in the begining of the file it has

## default num
# Set the default entry to the entry number NUM. Numbering starts from 0, and
# the entry number 0 is the default if the command is not used.
#
# You can specify 'saved' instead of a number. In this case, the default entry
# is the entry saved with the command 'savedefault'.
# WARNING: If you are using dmraid do not change this entry to 'saved' or your
# array will desync and will not let you boot your system.
default 4

all you have to do is change the "deafult" value to 0

or copy-paste this:
## default num
# Set the default entry to the entry number NUM. Numbering starts from 0, and
# the entry number 0 is the default if the command is not used.
#
# You can specify 'saved' instead of a number. In this case, the default entry
# is the entry saved with the command 'savedefault'.
# WARNING: If you are using dmraid do not change this entry to 'saved' or your
# array will desync and will not let you boot your system.
default 0
