How to hear what i have recorded using sound recorder in Ubuntu

When I try to record using sound recorder, it seems like is recording when push the record button, but when I try to play what I have just recorded, I don't hear anything. I am using Ubuntu 10.04

if you are recording then you should find the level meter fluctuating as per signal and then you need to select on which format it is getting recorded ie mp2 or ogg both the formats are playable with mplayer or vlc media player.
Just locate the location where you are storing the recorded material then play it back.
for testing your recording just play any audio stream on internet and then let sound recorder record the audio which you can play it back with mplayer or sound recorder itself.In case it is not happening then install alsa mixer or pulse audio mixer you may have to enable respective switches and level controls to feed the signal to sound recorder after that you are done.
