Error installing ubuntu server

Asked by phil

I'm trying to install ubuntu server on an old P2-300, intending to make use of some old hardware that's laying around for some simple server testing (apache/mysql)

I get a way through installation but then I get this warning:

"Install the base system
Debootstrap warning
Warning: Failure while configuring base packages. This will be attempted 5 times."

I'm not able to get beyond this. Is the hardware simply too old or is there something I can do to make it work?

What version of Ubuntu are you trying to install? Gutsy?

The problem appears to have been a faulty hard drive. After trying twice to install to the original drive, on a hunch I replaced it and installed without further problem on a different disk.
