Cannot install Ubuntu/Kubuntu

Asked by Steven

Hi,

Really new to this, forgive the ignorance if any.

I've recently downloaded ubuntu/kubuntu Lucid. I cannot seem to install this at all, either via windows installer or via boot. the run from cd wont work either and i believe i can actually run this from there.

I get authentication errors no matter which method i try and use. The boot option gets me to the logon, after which i cannot do anything as authentication failures occur. The windows option doesnt even get me there, simply fails with the same problem.

I've tried removing cards etc from my machine as i thought perhaps the wireless had something to do with it, but get the same issue.

any help, is appreciated. I havent jotted down the actual error as yet, but will provide should this be required.

Did you MD5 test the ISO?
Did you burn the CD as slowly as you could (if you are using a CD)?

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

Usually if the CD tests as OK the ISO is fine.

If you restart the X server on the login screen it should log you on automagically as ubuntu if you don't press anything

just see that you have made a bootable cd from the iso image you have, at times by mistake we copy iso image as it is whereas it should be a bootable cd so that things gets copied.
I had similar problem resolved few years back.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the input. The CD is bootable :-)

I tried this again last night, same thing. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace didnt do anything for the restart, apparently this is how you do it?

So, i've redownloaded yet again, MD5 check comes out matching yet again. :(

Not too sold on this at the moment, seems the thing doesnt even install... Any other assistance would be highly appreciated. I would like to get away from windows and can see i've got lots to learn :-)

Use torrents, there is extra checking in the torrent protocol. If the image is bad then it won't work. This is why MD5 testing exists.

Can you help with this problem?
