Ubuntu 10.04 freezes frequently

Asked by chintalvaady

Hi friends,

I recently installed UBUNTU 10.04 on my desktop comp which already has Windows XP on it.
I have had very satisfying experiences with earlier versions of ubuntu. But somehow this release frustates me cause it freezes very frequently and i had to use the RESTART button to use the computer again..I tried trouble shooting it myself and went for installing upgrades but the system freezes when the updates are getting downloaded.I know how the community works and its only a time before the bugs gets fixed.I request you voluenteers to help me fix this issue.

Regards

Only a suggestion:

Please note if you are talking of the Reset button, instad of press the Reset button on the pc please try this:

If you manage to freeze your system in such a way that even Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn’t work anymore, the mouse is stuck on the screen any none of the key combinations will work, don’t think of the reset button just yet.

Hold down the Right Alt and SysRq keys and press this sequence:

R E I S U B

This will cleanly unmount drives, terminate processes and nicely reboot your machine.

I suggest you run a memtest from the grub menu.

When it freezes can you restart the X server to get the system ok again.

Actionparsnip,

I performed a memtest which took some 40 mins and the test found no errors. But is there any fix to solve this issue.
