webcam configuring

this is what i get after typing lsusb,

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

how can i use my webcam for video chat in pidgin, ny video chat s/w.
cheese is not detecting the cam.

if you run:

cheese

Do you see yourself (if you do not have cheese installed then install it with: sudo apt-get install cheese)

a quick seach shows the cam is supported by the gspca suite of drivers, what make / model is the webcam?

i hav cheese installed(mentioned on the question), but it is showing black screen, no cam visuals..

You have this bug, I suggest you confirm it by saying "I have this too" etc. There may be a fix in the bugs but there are related bugs too which may give fixes.
