Mint is not supported here, mint has its own forum:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/

Please close as invalid.

If you want support on te Ubuntu forum you must be using Ubuntu, Mint is not supported. There are many distros BASED on Ubuntu but are NOT Ubuntu, they include (but are not limited to):
Crunchbang
Ultimate
MoonOS
BackTrack
Fluxbuntu

They are equally NOT supported here.

You can dual boot ANY OSes together provided they can run on your CPU and you ave enough HDD space to store them all.

Sure you can, you just need to add the right stuff in the bootloader options. Just because it doesn't work without any effort doesn't mean it cannot be done. Both Debian and Ubuntu use Grub2 so why would it not be possible?

If you install Debian and leave unpartitioned space for Ubuntu, you can then install Ubuntu to the space and the dual boot will be handled.

I have no idea what this side by side thing is, sounds like a tool for when users don't plan their partitions and they need to resize. If you plan out your partitions you have no need for this and the dual boot will be handled, this si also the case when dual booting with windows, the default is to use 100% of the free space which is not the intention if you are dual booting, so do not use the default.

Makes life easier.
