can I use Ununtu for a new computer

Can I just just use Ununtu on the computer only with window xp.
Can I format the computer and install the Ununtu as my OS.. How to do this...
I already download Ununtu ..Can I burn it to a CD then format the computer and install by this CD..

you have many options when it comes to what you can do. you can format your entire drive and install ubuntu (this will erase anything on the drive). you can install ubuntu "side by side" with windows. you can also use "WUBI" which will allow you to install ubuntu like a program within windows.
to install: download the image you want (ubuntu has many different offerings), use your favorite burning program (ImgBurn is what is installed on the wife's machine). reboot your computerand when the time comes select "use entire disk" to ERASE the drive then install ubuntu; or select "install next to <insert name here>.
if you want to install ubuntu from within windows you will need to download wubi instead. i have never used it before so you might want to read up on it so you know what to expect.
