Installed 10.04 lost 9.04

Asked by Paul Caton

I had Ubuntu 9.04 installed and then installed 10.04 from a bootable USB stick thinking this would upgrade 9.04. 10.04 LTS has installed not upgraded and my grub menu does not contain the 9.04 menu entries. In disk manager I can see the extended hdo,3 drive that contained the 9.04 installation, so it looks like the files are still there but I don't know how to get at them or edit the grub file to build the required entries to access the 9.04 files on hd0,3. 10.04 LTS has been installed on HD0,5. I also have WIndows XP on the system, that still works.

Help !

You cannot upgrade 9.04 to 10.04, you can only upgrade 9.04 to 9.10 to THEN upgrade to 10.04

My apologies, I had 9.10 installed not 9.04

My main issue is that I can no longer get at 9.10 install. It is clearly still on the hard drive but not in the grub file.

if someone could tell me how I can correct the grub file to see the 9.10 installation on hd0,3

10.04 is on hd0,5

try running:
sudo update-grub from 10.04, I suggest running Lucid than Jaunty, you can also access the files from 10.04, since you say the partition exists.

Can you help with this problem?
