Can't get monitor to work

I am running an eMachines E1161-07 and a Dell Flat Screen 1702FP Rev A01

UBUNTU Live CD works. I load UBUNTU and the introduction shows up ok. After the load has completed, all I get from the monitor is the little green light that shows it might be connected but nothing else. It comes on. It goes off. The screen is black. I can't tell if things are working or not. Leaving it all night for something to take it's time, same result.

Just checked the ubuntu forum and there is a post from "Drascus" who has exactly the same system as you. He has provided a work around try it out and reply with your result.
