Can't mount external drives

Asked by Dennis Horne

I have several external USB drives that I have been able to use without problems. Then this morning I try to mount one and it I get a message "Unable to Mount "name of drive" ;Not Authorized". I tried the other drives and get the same message.

I then sign onto the account I created when I installed linux(Ubuntu 9.10) and go to <System><Administration><Users and Groups> to see if permissions changed and it won't even let me check anything. At the bottom of the screen it says "Not Authorized to make changes" This account has Administrator rights and it wont even let me do anything.

I'm thinking this is a bug or a virus but Im fairly new to Linux so maybe someone out here knows what happened and how to fix it.

Thanks

Nope, it doesn't seem to help.

Well after several hours of frugal attempts to mount my other drives - it just started working again. MAGIC!
Linux seems to have a mind and a will of its on today.
