bringing back grub menu

I had ubuntu 9.10 and windows xp installed on my PC.
Recently I had to reinstall windows and after that the
grub menu is gone.
But I need to access existing ubuntu.

Can anyone help me bring back the grub menu ?

HI, you should boot the ubuntu install CD and choose the recover option.

Thanks for the response.
I tried it with the live cd of ubuntu.
The grub menu is back. But i got a new problem.

The menu does show windows in the menu list but i cannot get into windows now.
 It shows
 "
         no such device : 4aa44204a441f34d
         press any key ot continue ... "
