1280x800 screen resolution on a MacBook

Asked by Jerrod Faircloth

I am new to ubuntu. I downloaded ubuntu (10.04) onto a MacBook running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.2). I loaded ubuntu by using Parallels (build 5.0.9344). My first issue is that I cannot get my screen to display 1280x800 resolution. I tried modifying xorg.conf by adding "1280x800", rebooted the system and it didn't work. I kept playing with the system and found someone who said to modify the grub file. I did this and it blacked out my screen. I didn't know how to recover from that so I am installing ubuntu again. What can I do to fix the resolution issue? I have found many different resources online that have referred to similar situations, however none of the instructions given have worked for my specific situation. I have exhausted all the sites I can find on this issue. I need someone who knows more than me to help me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance

When I reinstalled ubuntu the screen resolution was automatically set to 1280x800. My problem is solved, but I'm not sure why it happened in the first place. I'm also not sure what happened different that fixed the problem. Who knows, but at this point I don't care, I'm just glad its fixed.
