Keyboard shortcut to see all workspaces and move between them

Asked by Brian Z

I accidentally hit a keyboard shortcut and something very cool happened. I could see small images of all 4 workspaces together on a black background. I think I hit the arrow keys and moved between them. Ctrl+Alt+[left or right arrow] does nearly the same thing but doesn't show all the workspaces at once. How did I do that?

Was it ctrl+alt+down?

No. Just like with the left and right arrows, that doesn't let you see images of all the actual workspaces all at once.

What I thought I hit was something more like Mod4+E but that's not doing it. (Mod4 is the "ms windows" key on my keyboard)

To clarify, I mean actual full images of the desktops and the windows on them on black screen, not just icons. One at a time would be larger then the others. Its kind of like what I have seen people do with their web browser tabs in Mac OS X, if you have ever seen that.

You can use CTRL+ALT+up cursor I believe

This shows a bit more:

Brian,

Verify that you have Expo enabled in CCSM, then WinKey+E should show all desktops and allow dragging windows between them.

Good luck,
George

Ah ha! I am totally confused about why it worked before, but I just installed CCSM and it works again! If CCSM comes with Ubuntu by default, then I must have somehow accidently uninstalled it, but Inever installed it before.

I also noticed (before I got it working again) that the "Expo Key" was defined in the Keyboard Shortcut settings.

Anyway, still not sure how I stumbled on this in the first place but thanks for the help!

CCSM doesn't come with ubuntu and it uses its own cut down method of None, some, lots of effects, CCSM lets you specify more settings and is much cooler.
It also lets you add your own plugins later if you want (the snowflake effect is great at christmas:)
