Coby MP705 MP3 player not detected on USB port by Ubuntu

Asked by oocevin

I do not know how to upload music from Frostwire or Limewire to my MP3 player so I
can listen to music as I'm out side or some thing like that.
I have Lime and Frost installed on my Kubuntu 10.4

When I had Windows XP I had Windows Media player and Limewire to upload
music to my MP3 player. But I can't figure out how to do that on 10.4

What is the exact model and make of MP3 player that you are using?

Can you connect it to the PC using a USB cable and then send us the Terminal output of the following command?

lsusb

The command is LSUSB but in small letters ;-)

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1e74:2513
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

This is what came back....

I reinstalled Kubuntu 10.4 and I went here:
http://theindexer.wordpress.com/2010/03/21/to-do-list-after-installing-ubuntu-10-04-aka-lucid-lynx/

I added sudo aptitude install vlc mplayer

Plus I installed LimeWire.

So I need to know how to get my sons MP3 player loaded up with music..

hi, you jsut need to find out where is the MP3 looking for song files and copy them to that folder

OK I have the idea, now to do that..

I will try to find out and let you know.

I know LimeWire has it's own folder

they add Saved and Not saved files'

Now to redirect MP3 player to that

LimeWire file.

Does that sound correct?

Please read this:

http://blog.nigels.com/?p=122

It says:

"I came across a Coby MP705 at my local Frys electronics store. It features MP3 and OGG audio and XVID AVI video at 220×176 @30fps.

There is one configuration setting necessary for the player to happily talk to Ubuntu 8.04 Linux over USB:
Setup -> System -> USB Mode -> MSC"

This MSC USB mode is mentioned in the following Coby MP3 player manual:

Here is my sons MP3 player info:

FW:00.1201
VER:090627
CHIP:08
FREE:3930MB
ALL: 3931B

I hear the Amrok Sync, But I installed VLC Media Player also.

I have to set it some how so it gets Music LimeWire Save File.

I'm knew to this. I love this system, but so much to learn and
my boy wants Windows XP back with Windows Media Player
so he can load his favorite music. He been doing it for a few
years with XP but I want him to use Kubuntu, it is safer and
much faster. Just have to learn.

I'm saving all of the info I get:-)..

Cevin

So how to make my sons MP3 player look at Limewire saved songs file
so they can be uploaded?

OK I DID IT, WITH THE TONS OF HELP FROM ALL OF YOU..

Have to use File Manager (Dolphin)

Plug in MP3 Player Then open File manager then open for
me, Limewire saved songs and drag the songs you want over
into the MP3 slot, BAM!!! it's in there..
