I believe that the problem is that the audio channels (including the PCM audio channel) are muted in gnome-alsamixer on your pc.

Please open gnome-alsamixer using a Terminal and then UNMUTE and increase volume on all channels, including the Master, PCM and Front channels.

Then retest sound using both speakers and headphones.

I've done this already, but doesn't help.

After I shut down and boot up again, any changes to alsamixer are lost, but even after readjusting, there is still nothing.
