Can't get a consistent red-glass pointer

Asked by John Winterton

Ubuntu 10.4 LTS + current updates with gdm 2.3.0-0ubuntu5 and compiz with Ambiance theme customized to have a red-glass pointer.

The pointer appears in some applications as red-glass. Firefox works, most other apps do not. Perhaps some variable or image in the kernel or gdm has not been set correctly?

As I have need for a more visible pointer, this is important to me.

John,

I'd suggest you see if Compiz is interfering with mouse pointer theme.

To disable Compiz (NOTE: THIS WILL CLEAR ALL YOUR COMPIZ SETTINGS!!!), System / Preferences / Appearance - then "Visual Effects" tab, and select None.

My "guess" is without compiz your mouse pointer will stay on the red-glass theme (only a guess mind you). I also have no solution if this is infact the case.

Best of luck,
George

Yes, that did the trick. Too bad really because I like the enhanced effects. Wonder which plug-in is the culprit.
