Monitor goes into power save mode while I try to reinstall Ubuntu 10.04 from flash drive. Please assist.

Asked by Mubuntu

I reset the boot sequence in the bios to boot first from the USB port as I want to re-install Ubuntu 10.04 from a flash drive. Previously I used Ubuntu 9.10 and recently upgraded to 10.04 when prompted to do so by Ubuntu. However, I have had recurring problems when trying to boot the machine. Five boot options (two in safe mode0 were stated after I interrupted the boot sequence by pressing the ESC key. Sometimes the monitor shuts down. Sometimes other users cannot gain access to their profiles loaded on the PC. Please help. Thanks.

Hi :)

Are you able to boot up using the flash-drive into a LiveUsb session?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD

Do you have access to another machine which can read/write to the flash-drive and also has access to the internet? If not then we can always try something else but i think htis would be the easiest way to reinstall grub2
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD
If we could get the output of

sudo fdisk -l

then we might be able to guide you more precisely
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Hi Tom
Thanks for the advice. What worked in the end, was for me to update to grub2. After doing this, there were no more boot errors. Thanks again.
Regards,
Marc
