Uninstall Ubuntu 9.10

Asked by Anandanam

Hi

I have recently upgraded to Lucid lynx from 9.10. But my internet device Huawei was not getting recognized at all by Lucid. I do not understand why as I was normally using it on 9.10. Someone suggested me to install wvdial through terminal, and so I did. It worked in the first couple of restarts but it not working anymore now. Please tell me what I can do. I read somewhere installing 'usb modswitch' would help. Shall I do this?

I have another problem. If someone has a solution to my above problem, I need to know how to uninstall 9.10 which I installed side by side with lucid 10.4. So please help. Thank you in advance.

Anand

Anandanam,

Download and install G-Parted

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install g-parted

Then open it and find your 9.10 partition, right click it and delete it.

Or why don't you leave 9.10 and delete 10.04's partition since 9.10 works for you.

HI :)

It is smart to install the newer version as an addition to the dual/multi-boot in order to make sure things work before committing yourself to the newer release. Wojox's answer will help you remove the older install after you have got everything working in the newer one but there are a few finesses worth trying before deleting the old.

Yes, the mode-switch should help but hardware manufacturers try to make each device slightly unique so it doesn't always work. Often if you go up to the top taskbar and click on

Places - Computer

then you will see the wireless device as a tiny storage device. Right-click on that in order to do about the same as the mode-switch would do, except this method always works (once you can find the storage thing). Obviously the mode-switch is more elegant and it would be really good to try it and then post a bug-report of it doesn't work so that the developers can add your device to the list of things to get working. Preferably just add to the existing bug-report about "Zero Cd Devices" or whatever it is called. Anyway, once you have "mode-switched" or "ejected the storage part" then the wireless device should work just fine.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
