Hi :)

There are a few people with display problems in 10.04 so it might be worth going back to 9.10 or 8.04 for a bit. Do you already have a separate /home partition? If not then this is the easiest time to set one up. Please let me know if you want to try this. Also there is a trick to installing that avoids the usual formatting but it's not hugely easy. I would recommend backing up your /home folder to external hard-drive before starting using the "rsync" command.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Possible workaround for this is to press Shift on reboot until the GRUB menu appears and select the recovery mode, followed by the fail safe graphics mode.
Once booted into this low resolution mode, a standard restart should allow the computer to boot normally, but it may not boot properly on further attempts which is why it's imperative to immediately plug in an ethernet cable.

Then immediately update your system and verify correct driver installation.
system administration -> hardware driver

In case you have a netbook search for workarounds with your hd specifics.

Ubuntu 10.04 does not have a driver for my video card. X700 256Meg. DDR2 PCI-E VGA card. Previous versions supported this video card. This is why it would boot-up to a prompt screen instead of the graphic style screen. Does anyone know how to get driver from 9.10 to work with 10.04?

Hi :)

Please re-post this question because Launchpad does not have a good way of dealing with questions more than a day or 2 old.
