System will not boot after installation

Asked by Wayne Lansdowne

I installed Ubuntu on an old XP system and elected to install as a single boot system using the entire disk. The installation completes successfully, I remove the CD as instructed and press enter. The system then reboots successfully and Ubuntu launches. However, if I then restart or shutdown the system Ubuntu will not boot. The system can't seen to find the boot device.

Hi :)

Please can you run a LiveCd session using the Ubuntu Cd as a boot-Cd?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD

If so then please give us the output of these commands

free -m

sudo fdisk -l

where "-l" is a lower-case "-L". Hopefully that might show us how to solve this. Errr to get to a command-line try

Good luck and regards from
