Ubuntu 10.4 Keyboard Backlight Problems

Asked by David Hamilton

I just installed Ubuntu 10.4 on my new Dell Studio XPS 16. Everything is working perfectly...except the keyboard backlight won't seem to turn on. I know the keyboard backlight physically works since I can turn it on and off on my when I'm in Windows, with the help of the Dell QuickSet program. Does anybody know how to get the backlight working in Ubuntu?

Thanks

I had a similar problem, and was able to turn my keyboard backlight on by using the Fn key along with the right arrow key. The right arrow key had a silkscreen of a small key with tiny rays emitting from it. Pressing it several times turns on / auto/ off the back lighted keys.
