I need to wipe clean my sons PC and do a reinstall,

Asked by oocevin

I need to wipe my 10yr old sons PC clean and do a fresh reinstall.
I tried putting in my CD and reboot but it did not take.
I tried to open it and install it, but I can't get it to work.
I open the command and wrote start CD ROM did not
work.
So does any body know how to do this.

Is the BIOS set to boot from the CD-Rom first - before the Hard Drive?

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded BEFORE burning?

My CD ROM broke down as I was
trying to reinstall. That;s why it
would not work. My friend that
fixes PC's let use a CD ROM
to plug in to see what happens.
Well it booted in and asked for a
cd or some thing like that so I put
it in and it went to the take a tour
first or Install, or check CD for errors.
Came back no errors. So I clicked on
install. So it then took me to the language
page I pick English, then Time Zone I
clicked Chicago sense I live in WI.
Then it took me to Prep Partition and
there it is blank for where to install it.
Nothing zip. It has make new one button.
And Add button, Delete, and restore button.

The first time I installed it my CD ROM was
working. But, it still would not go to where
it told me to either to take a tour or install.
And so on. I had to start in windows And it asked
If I was having trouble with booting in with it
and if so download CD helper then it rebooted
the PC and went to the desk top. It had a
Icon to click to install. At that time it should
where to install it.

Hello.....

Maybe try downloading, if possible, gparted live cd and use that to partition the drive (clean/wipe/format).

It will boot like an install cd straight it a partitioner then use it to cut the hardrive into either two or three pieces.

Either 1 partition double the size of the system RAM to use for swap space and the rest for the Ubuntu root partition (/) .

OR

1 partition for swap (size = double the RAM), 1 for the root filesystem (/) say 10 or 20gb and 1 for the home folder (/home) as big as possible.

Selecting/setting the home (/home) and/or root (/) partition(s) when you get back into the ubuntu installer should be obvious'ish.
