Ubuntu 10.04 login

Asked by DeadlyDaddio

When the system sleeps, waking produces a password request every time. Is there a way to disable this?

Right now I'm testing Ubuntu 10.04 and allowing everyone to use it any time. Everyone is complaining about having to enter a password every 10 minutes which is where we have the system going to sleep for maximum energy efficiency...

What options do you use in "login screen"? (system>administration>login screen)

Hi Kenji,

Thanks for the prompt reply!

This appears to new in Ubuntu 10.04 but there are no options to turn this off. I don't think I can send you a screen print since it looks like it's pre-login...

I've looked through all the options I could think of around Suspending, Login and so forth but have found nothing pertinent to this issue.

In truth this is a very small issue, not a bug, just a minor inconvenience really.

Still, all users should have the option to lower security if it is appropriate, similar to making system login automatic.

Again, thanks so much, Sher

Open a terminal and paste in the following:
gconftool-2 --type Boolean --set /apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/suspend False

Alternatively run the gconf editor (Alt+F2; type gconf-editor)
Look for apps/gnome-power-manager-lock, and untick the box by suspend

Sounds like locked screen when screen saver is running. Check System>Preferences>Screen saver. If the "lock screen when screen saver is active" box box is checked, that's what is happening. Uncheck this box and the display will "wake up" with touch of the keypad or move the mouse. You can also change the time before it goes to screen saver. Handy if you want to watch a DVD....

The screen saver is locking the screen.

Check System>Preferences>Screen saver. If the "lock screen when screen saver is active" box box is checked, that's what is happening. Can you help with this problem?
