My mouse freezes on Lucid Lynx

Asked by John Blythe Reid

I upgraded from Karmic Koala to Lucid Lynx yesterday using the Update Manager. Since then my mouse has frozen several times. It's a PS/2 mouse. The keyboard and screen keep working OK. I can navigate around menus using the cursor shift keys and I can use the keyboard short cuts which all seem to work. However the mouse pointer stays fixed in the same position. I have to re-boot to clear the problem.

I've been using this same computer with Karmic since November without any mouse problems.

Any ideas ?

Regards,
John.

I'd start to
- review logfiles, e.g. Xorg.0.log, dmesg
- disable visual effects
- search the web for specifics related to graphic card/driver, kms
- in case log a bug report
- reinstall 10.04 or wait until first snapshot.

I tried disabling the special visual effects but it made no difference.

If I just leave rhythmbox running to listen to music the mouse pointer doesn't freeze, which is not really surprising as I'm not using the graphic interface. However, when I do start opening windows, browsing the web etc. the mouse pointer soon freezes making the computer difficult to use.

Could you please tell me if there's anything I can temporarily back out to avoid this problem until it's fixed ?

Thanks.

Regards,
John.
