devede returns an error regards codec wmv9dmod.dll

Asked by jvanh

I updated Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 LTS and now DeVeDe refuses to continue but stops with an error saying "can't find codec wmv9dmod.dll. This is not typical for Ubuntu as the same problem appears in Fedora 12, whereas I have used this program without any trouble before. Where can I find the necessary codec?

Have a look at :
           https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
They have some codecs. Perhaps this.

I located the necessary codec (all-20071007.tar.bz2) at the following link : http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/ I have extracted the file but don't know where to put the codec wmv9dmod.dll. Can anyone please tell me in what directory same should be placed? Thank you very much beforehand.

Try
     /usr/lib/win32
and
     /usr/local/lib/win32
I found this in a french forum.

In another site, http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/w32codecs (also in french), they advise to install Medibuntu, and then apt://non-free-codecs
